Rezoning a 0.2-acre strip of land west of Gilbert Road on the north side of McKellips Road would allow 18 employee parking spaces to be constructed at Orange Tree Marketplace in Mesa.
The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board on June 23 voted to recommend the council approve rezoning the property from agriculture to limited commercial as part of a consent agenda with other items, with Dane Astle and Shelly Allen absent. The City Council will make the final decision at a future meeting.
“So the existing site is zoned agricultural; that zoning is a remnant of when the property was annexed into the city of Mesa. The applicant is requesting to rezone that property to LC consistent with what the existing Orange Tree commercial development to the east is zoned,” Mesa Planner Cassidy Welch said during a study session prior to the meeting.
