Property at 978 E. Roosevelt St. donated to the city of Apache Junction is to be split into two or three lots and sold, with the $160,000 in estimated proceeds put in the general fund or given to a nonprofit development corporation, the planning and zoning commission was told recently.
The 2.37 acres, abandoned for several years, was often occupied by trespassers while the owners lived in Germany. The city removed nonconforming structures and trespassers with owner cooperation and the owner, no longer wishing to deal with the parcel further, donated it to the municipality, according to city records.
“It is proposed to be split into three medium-density parcels with a planned development overlay to be cohesive with the variety of zoning in the neighborhood and adhere to the topographical constraints,” Planning Intern Kendra Ellner told the commission Nov. 10 about the property between Royal Palm Road and Cactus Road.
