158 military veterans housed with Mesa voucher program

Nearly 160 military veterans who had been without homes are using rental-assistance vouchers to live in Mesa in the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program, with funding available for more.

“January though November of this year you can see the increase. We’ve gone from as low as 121 up to 158 today. This is the highest amount of veterans that we have had leased in a month in over three years, which is great news. This is where we want it to be. We’d like it to be a lot higher, but this is really good,” Mesa Housing Supervisor Mary Brandon said at the Nov. 19 meeting of the Mesa Housing Services Governing Board.

“So we have 158 currently this month leased into a unit. We have seven veterans who have a voucher in hand that are either waiting to move into a unit or are searching for a unit. So, of those, that leaves us with 26 additional vouchers available for veterans. So we’ll continue to work with the VA to get referrals,” she said.
