Two 13-year-olds died in the Dec. 13 collision at Country Club and Main Street, Mesa police said Thursday.

They were in a stolen vehicle, police said.

"Out of respect for the families, the Mesa Police Department will not be releasing their names at this time," a release stated.

The teens died after the Hyundai Elantra they were in collided with an SUV at the intersection, police said.

Those inside the SUV suffered minor injuries.

Police said the crash occurred when the Elantra, which was heading east on Main Street, crashed into the SUV that was going south on Country Club. The Elantra crashed into a pole after the initial collision, authorities said.

Police said they will provide updates to their investigation.
