Loop 101 in Tempe reopened Saturday night hours after a crash that killed a motorcyclist who was not wearing a helmet, authorities said.
The collision occurred about 6:50 p.m. July 21 when a motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Loop 101 near University Drive and collided into the rear of another vehicle, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Traffic was backed up due to a crash, and the motorcyclist did not stop in time. The motorcycle caught fire, and the driver, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene, DPS officials said in a release.
The road was reopened about 9:30 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
