Update on Mesa road project impacting Queen Creek drivers

Posted

Work on a city of Mesa project to widen Ellsworth Road continues to affect Queen Creek residents.

Northbound restrictions between Germann and Willis/Pecos roads will remain in place through the week of Feb. 2, according to a town of Queen Creek Facebook post.

The next phase will begin on Monday, Feb. 9.

Northbound Ellsworth will be reduced to one lane from Willis/Pecos to Legacy roads through early March. This is a 24-hour restriction.

Southbound Ellsworth will be reduced to one lane at the Germann Road intersection through Feb. 20 daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The project will add three lanes in each direction on Ellsworth Road between Ray and Germann roads, according to a town of Queen Creek press release.

Along with widening the road, the project also includes traffic signal upgrades, landscaping, signs and roadway striping.

The overall Ellsworth Road widening project will take place in three phases:

  • Phase 1: Construction of Ellsworth Road northbound lanes
  • Phase 2: Construction of Ellsworth Road southbound lanes
  • Phase 3: Construction of center median modifications

Completion is expected in February 2027.

During the Ellsworth Road widening project, motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes to access State Route 24 such as Signal Butte Road, Meridian Road and Ironwood Drive.
