Susan Barnes Tenerelli

Posted

Susan, 75, of Sun City, AZ, died suddenly and unexpectedly from pulmonary embolisms on February 18, 2021 at Banner Hospital in Sun City.
Sue was born in Chicago, IL on January 23, 1946 to Frank and Helen (Janisch) Barnes.
She attended Northern Illinois University, majoring in Special Education with an emphasis on visually impaired students. Sue married Dr. Joseph Tenerelli on August 24, 1968 in Chicago. She worked in a variety of capacities in education and business but felt that her true calling was the 19 years she worked as Administrative Secretary at St. Joseph University Parish in Terre Haute, IN. It was here that Sue realized that she could put words into action, enabling her to “Preach the gospel at all times and, if necessary, use words.”
Sue and her family lived in Macomb, IL, Iowa city, IA, and Terre Haute, IN. Several years after their retirement she and Joe moved to Sun City AZ. Sue was an avid reader and she and her family loved roaming the country in their travel trailer. Most of all, Sue was devoted to her daughters, her extended family and the many friends whom she considered as family.
Sue is survived by her husband, Joe, and daughters Katie Tenerelli (Kelly Love), Jennifer (Tony) Haller, Emily (Josh) Speer, grandchildren Dan and Abigail Haller and beloved sister-in-law Carol Ann (John) Kunz. She was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother Richard.
A memorial service conducted by Sue’s daughter-in-law, Rev. Kelly Love, will be held at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center in Sun City on March 27, 2021 at 1:00pm. (MST) A celebration of Sue’s life and a Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph University Parish in Terre Haute, IN at a later date, when Dr. Anthony Fauci says it’s safer to gather.
In remembrance of Sue, donations may be made to: Catholic Charities of Terre Haute (archindy.org/cc/terrehaute/); St. Mary’s Food Bank (firstfoodbank.org), Phoenix, AZ; the World Central Kitchen (wck.org); or a charity of your choice.
