A national craft ice cream shop is coming to downtown Queen Creek.
Salt & Straw has been signed as a tenant at The Switchyard, according to the Queen Creek Chamber of Commerce and the town.
“Known for its small-batch ice cream and creative seasonal flavors, Salt & Straw has built a national following by turning ice cream into an experience,” according to a post on the chamber’s Facebook page.
Salt & Straw has locations across the county and offers eclectic ice cream flavors such as Goat Cheese Marionberry Habanero, Salty Donut Guava and Cheese, and Honey Lavendar along with new twists on traditional favorites.
The Oregon-based business was founded in 2011 by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek. The Queen Creek shop will join other Salt & Straw Arizona locations in Tempe, Gilbert and Phoenix.
The Switchyard, a $120 million mixed-use development, is currently being constructed on 10 acres on the northeast corner of Ellsworth Loop and East Ocotillo roads.
The development will have 54,000 square feet of restaurant, retail and office space, plus a 215-residence luxury apartment community.
The project’s residential portion is in the design phase. Construction on the retail and office phase began last year. At completion, there will be seven buildings on the site — four single-story buildings with office, retail and restaurant space and three four-story buildings that will house the 215 apartment units along with more office space.
Salt & Straw will join Bamboo Sushi, ROOM and PORCH, Zara Nail Bar and Edward Jones, according to a press release from developer Creation.
Other previously announced restaurants Snooze, Shake Shack and Postino, are expected to open by the end of the year.
