Richard LeRoy Aby passed away on December 22, 2022, at the VA hospital in Phoenix, AZ. He was born on July 8, 1946, in Pierre, South Dakota, the second son and sixth child of Perry C. Aby Sr. and Irma Mae (Masek) Aby. He graduated from New Underwood High School in 1964 and was drafted into the Army in 1965, serving as an E5 Sergeant in Vietnam from 1965-1967. He saw combat in the rice paddies and jungles of Vietnam until being honorably discharged in 1967 after being exposed to Agent Orange; he suffered with its many side effects most of his life. He received many awards and medals for his military service. He married Barbara Trask in September, 1968, and they later divorced. He married Pamela Harrison on August 26, 2000, in Mesa, AZ. A beloved husband, father, son, brother and uncle, he was a soft-spoken man who would do anything for anyone and will be greatly missed. After retiring he enjoyed traveling with his wife, they visited Alaska and Rocky Point, Mexico and many other places throughout the US in their fifth wheel. He is survived by his wife Pamela; son Shane Aby and daughter Bobbi Jo (Andrew) Pereida; Pam’s children Dennis Harrison & Michelle (Jason) Fornoff; seven grandchildren, Bailee, Madisen, Ty, Eaton, Brooke, Courtney and Brandon; and two sisters, Evonne & Geraldine. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and their spouses Lois (Louie) Ewert and Shirley (Bill) Millard; brothers Perry C. Jr and Donald; and brother-in-law Joe. He will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, Arizona.
