Queen Creek’s community recycling center is preparing to open its new home.
On Monday, Sept. 29, the current QC Recycling Center on Ellsworth Road adjacent to the Pocket Park for Pups and the Municipal Services Building will be permanently closed.
The new location will open on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 22179 E. Ryan Road near Frontier Family Park.
The move has been in the works for months since it was announced that the town will be constructing a new police headquarters where the recycling center currently sits.
In December, the council approved a more than $4.7 million design contract for the new police headquarters and a parking structure. Construction is estimated at more than $59.6 million, with the facilities set for completion sometime in 2028, according to the Queen Creek Police master plan.
In June, the Queen Creek Town Council approved the recycling center’s move.
“This area will need to be vacated by October/November 2025 for construction equipment staging and mobilization,” according to a council staff report.
The $322,000 project will be funded from the solid waste and recycling fund balance.
“This project consists of installing fencing and gates to define the perimeter, installation of new solar lighting and a security camera system to enhance visibility and security of the site,” the report continued.
Access to the relocated center will be off Signal Butte Road to Ryan Road, and just past the Frontier Family Park Road.
“At the new recycling center, you’ll be able to drop off everything you can put in your curbside blue cart plus take advantage of our cooking-oil recycling program with a convenient collection container on-site and our glass only roll-off,” according to a post on the town’s Facebook page.
The new police headquarters is also causing the Pocket Park for Pups to move to Founders’ Park, 22407 S. Ellsworth Road.
In February, the council established budgets totaling more than $2.9 million for the dog park relocation and replacement playground equipment for Founders’ Park.
The new recycling center will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
