Queen Creek gets do-over on 'Cardboard Box Cars'

Posted

Mother Nature was less than cooperative during Queen Creek's Cardboard Box Car “Drive-in” movie on Friday, but she plans to make up for it.

In honor of Earth Month in April, the town’s Environmental Services Division will set to host a screening of “Finding Nemo” at 7:15 p.m., April 5 at Founders’ Park, 22407 S. Ellsworth Road.

But wind gusts and forecasted rain put a kibosh on the event. The inflatable screen cannot be used if winds are greater than 15 miles per hour and the electronic equipment cannot be used in the rain, according to a town Facebook post that added "safety is our top priority."

Never fear, however, the search for Nemo will go  on. The town's Cardboard Box Car “Drive-in” movie has been moved to dusk, Saturday, April 13 at Founders' Park.

Free popcorn and water will be served starting at 6:30 p.m. while supplies last. The event is free, but registration is required.

Residents are encouraged to bring “box cars” made from cardboard and other recyclable materials, a town press release stated.

Cardboard box car tips and a link to register for the event can be found at QueenCreekAZ.gov/BoxCarMovie.

Additional resources to celebrate Earth Day every day in April, including an Earth Month calendar, Queen Creek trails scavenger hunt, a free drive-through recycling event, online games, and free landscape watering workshops, can be found at QueenCreekAZ.gov/EarthMonth.
