The under construction Frontier Family Park has reached a milestone.
Queen Creek has started filling up the new park’s 5-acre lake.
“A lot of work has gone into this from the original digging of the hole to putting in the recirculation system, you have the liner that went in and then the ballast is all the dirt on top,” said Adam Robinson, the town’s community services deputy director, in a video put out by the town.
The lake will be stocked with fish and their habitats are already in place at the bottom of the soon-to-be-filled lake. Once the lake is full, the fish will be released.
As with the lake at Mansel Carter Oasis Park, the Frontier Family Park Lake is being filled with reclaimed water. Once the lake is filled, water will be pumped from the lake for use in irrigating turf grass and plant materials in the park.
Frontier Family Park is off Signal Butte Road, north of Queen Creek Road. It is expected to open in February 2024.
The 85-acre park will have a variety of amenities such as an inclusive play area, the fishing lake, lighted ball fields, picnic areas, splash pad and basketball and volleyball courts. The park will also feature 24 pickleball courts and a 1.5-mile multiuse path that will span the perimeter of the park.
Frontier Family Park is also the site of the town’s new recreation and aquatic center, which recently broke ground.
The recreation and aquatic center will include an indoor recreation center with various sport courts such as basketball, volleyball and pickleball. It will also have a fitness area, teen room, childcare and classrooms. The outdoor aquatic center will include a zero-depth entry play pool, competition/lap pool, lazy river and slides. There will be shared space for locker rooms. The center is set to open in 2024.
The town is also in the process of completing phase II of Mansel Carter Oasis Park. The 13-acre expansion is set to open in early 2024 and will include tennis courts, volleyball courts, pickleball courts, pump track, additional restrooms and parking, and passive green space. Mansel Carter Oasis Park is at 19535 E. Appleby Road.
The total cost for the three projects is $157 million. The Frontier Family Park, the recreation and aquatic center and the Mansel Carter Oasis Park expansion were approved by the Queen Creek Town Council in December 2021.
