Ramona Simpson, the town’s environmental and fleet operations manager, has been recognized for her dedication and exceptional work in implementing sustainable waste management practices.
Her efforts and leadership have earned her the Solid Waste Association of North America 2024 Communication, Education, and Marketing Technical Division Distinguished Individual Achievement Award, according to a town press release.
“We are so proud of Ramona and her leadership and innovation in our community,” stated Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley in the release. “She has been at the forefront of Queen Creek’s environmental efforts, particularly related to solid waste. She continues to be an asset to the organization and the industry. Congratulations on your well-deserved national recognition!”
In Queen Creek, Simpson spearheaded the efforts to bring residential trash and recycling services to the town in 2010 with the support of town council and staff.
Her award-winning initiatives have transformed the community's waste management practices, making it an example of sustainability. Simpson was also a former director of SWANA’s Communications, Education, and Marketing Technical Division and currently serves as the vice president for the Arizona Chapter.
“This recognition is a testament to our members’ commitment to excellence and innovation in the waste management industry,” stated SWANA President Art Mercer in the release. “Your dedication exemplifies SWANA’s goal of driving progress in our industry. Your achievements inspire us, and we are proud to honor your contributions.”
