Queen Creek’s Economic Development Department was recently reaccredited as an Accredited Economic Development Organization by the International Economic Development Council.

The department was originally accredited in 2018 and reaccredited in 2022.

“The town of Queen Creek displays the professionalism, commitment and technical expertise that is deserving of this honor,” stated IEDC President and CEO Nathan Ohle in a press release.

The town’s economic development department is one of 93 Accredited Economic Development Organizations in the world. The AEDO program is peer-review process that measures economic development organizations against standards in the profession. The program consists of two phases — a documentation review and an onsite visit.

The International Economic Development Council serves economic and community development professionals in the world. With more than 5,000 members nationwide and abroad, the council offers the economic development profession a source for information, professional development and advocacy.

The town’s economic development department has been recognized by various organizations over the years. Last year, Marissa Garnett received the 2025 Economic Development 40 Under 40 Award.

Garnett, an economic development project manager, was among the 40 recipients chosen out of a pool of 160 nominations to win the award. She began her career with the town in 2014 as a research assistant and advanced to her current role.

The biennial award recognizing rising stars under 40 years old in the economic development industry is given out by Development Counsellors International.
