Queen Creek council members seek reelection

Posted

Three seats are up for grabs on the Queen Creek Town Council and all three incumbents are running for reelection in 2024.

Queen Creek Councilor Robin Benning announced this afternoon on his Facebook page that he is running for reelection.

"I am excited to announce my intention to run for re-election for the position of council member for the town of Queen Creek in 2024," Benning posted on his site. "We have done so much over the past 14 years but there is so much more to do."

Benning was appointed to the town council in November 2009 and was elected for the first time in 2012.

Queen Creek Town Council Member Leah Martineau has announced she is running for reelection in 2024.

Queen Creek Councilor Leah Martineau announced on her Facebook page Nov. 30 that she would seek reelection. She was first elected in 2020.

“After much thought, prayer and support of my family, I have decided to run for reelection,” Martineau posted. “As a proven fiscal hawk, I voted to lower your property tax rate (successfully). I will continue to fight for limited government and keep Queen Creek a family friendly community.”

Current Vice Mayor Jeff Brown also recently announced his intention to seek reelection.
“I’ve worked hard to lower your property tax rate (successfully) and to bring Queen Creek Police Department into service,” Brown posted on his Facebook page. “If you want continued fiscal conservatism and emphasis on public safety, I need your help to get my name on the ballot for reelection to QC town council.”

Brown has been serving as vice mayor since 2022, when he was elected by the council to a one-year term. Following the death of Mayor Gail Barney in June of that year, Brown helmed the council in accordance with the town code.

When Julia Wheatley was elected mayor in August 2022, Brown was once again elected vice mayor. His term ends in January.

The third incumbent, Robin Benning, has yet to make an announcement on his reelection plans.

The primary election will be held in August 2024.
