New tenants move into new Queen Creek park’s lake

Posted

Opening day is getting closer for Frontier Family Park and some new residents already are calling the place home.

On Thursday, the Queen Creek Parks & Recreation Department began stocking the new park’s 5-acre lake with hundreds of fish.

The lake now contains  bass, catfish, sunfish and minnows. Fishing will not be permitted at the lake until the park opens this summer.

The grand opening of part of Frontier Family Park is set for 8-11 a.m., Wednesday, June 8 at 20039 S. 220 St.

When completed, the 85-acre Frontier Family Park will have a variety of amenities such as an inclusive play area, the fishing lake, lighted ball fields, picnic areas, splash pad and basketball and volleyball courts. The park will also feature 24 pickleball courts and a 1.5-mile multiuse path that will span the perimeter of the park.

A recreation and aquatic center remain under construction and will include an indoor recreation center with various sport courts such as basketball, volleyball and pickleball. It will also have a fitness area, teen room, childcare and classrooms. The outdoor aquatic center will include a zero-depth entry play pool, competition/lap pool, lazy river and slides. There will be shared space for locker rooms.

Queen Creek broke ground on the center in May 2023 and placed the final beam on the building in March. The center is set to open later this year or early next.

The town is looking for volunteers to help with set-up and take-down during the June 8 grand opening event. If interested, complete a volunteer application and select “Frontier Family Park Grand Opening” as your preferred assignment or email the volunteer coordinator at kim.nishihara@queencreekaz.gov.
