Randy Brice was sworn in as the first chief of police of the Queen Creek Police Department at the City Council meeting Wednesday, Dec. 2.

“I have the distinct honor of performing the swearing in this evening,” said Mayor Gail Barney. “Chief Brice has been working very hard over the past several months, and this is a very exciting moment for our community. Establishing a police department is no simple task – our residents, businesses and visitors are fortunate to have Chief Brice at the helm as we go through this complicated process.”

Mr. Brice was hired in July and has been working on a number of complex tasks related to establishing a new municipal police department.

He began his career with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in 1992. During that time, he worked in many capacities throughout the organization and earned several certifications including drug recognition expert, emergency medical technician and paramedic.

In May 2016, he retired from MCSO with the rank of captain. Mr. Brice then joined the Gilbert Police Department as a commander. While in Gilbert, he also served as the interim chief of police and assistant chief of police over the Investigation-Support Bureau before joining the Queen Creek Police Department.

"From the very beginning, I committed to develop an organization that serves with respect, compassion and trust. I am excited to continue this challenging and rewarding journey with the Queen Creek community,” Mr. Brice. Said. “This is truly a historic process, and I am honored to officially be the first chief of the Queen Creek Police Department.

Also during the meeting, town council members chose between two renderings of proposed police badges.

The rendering selected features Queen Creek's Historic Town Hall front-and-center, with a flagpole flying the U.S. and Arizona flags. It also includes the state seal.

While the badges will be primarily silver with black lettering, the flags and the seal will be colored to give them a splash of brightness.

The council will next see a physical model of the badge once it is produced.

The Queen Creek Town Council approved establishing a municipal police department in March following a comprehensive study and extensive public outreach.

The Queen Creek Police Department is expected to go live in January 2022. In the meantime, MCSO will remain the contracted law enforcement provider during the transition.

The Queen Creek Police Department will welcome additional command staff later this month with recruitment for the remaining sworn positions anticipated to open in early 2021. To be notified of job openings, sign up at QueenCreek.org/eNews.
