The backyard pond in Apache Junction, located at 4th Avenue and Signal Butte Road, will be on the tour this month.

A Glendale couple’s two backyard ponds at 51st Avenue and Thunderbird Road will be on the tour on May 13. One pond is 750 gallons with an aqua bead filter and 4,500-gallon pump turning the water over. The second is 4,300 gallons, 16-feet by 10-feet and four feet deep, and a 7,900-gallon pump. Both ponds have Japanese koi in them.

The Greater Phoenix Pond Society is hosting its yearly free open house event in May.
This family friendly event is open to the public and goes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 13 at various locations around the Valley.
The 27th Annual GPPS Pond Tour has members graciously open their private ponds for a day of public viewing. Visit a wide variety of beautiful ponds across the Valley and ask pond owners questions.
The tour will appeal especially to those interested in ponds, water gardens, koi, goldfish, turtles, fountains, or anyone looking for inspiration for their own yard.
There will be 16 ponds on the tour:
Apache Junction – Cross streets: 4th Avenue and South Signal Butte Road
Buckeye – Cross streets: Verrado Way and Victory Blvd.
Cave Creek – Cross streets: Cave Creek Road and Dynamite Road
Chandler – 2 locations. Cross streets: Price Road and Seville Blvd; McQueen and Chandler Blvd.
Gilbert – Cross streets: Lindsay and Queen Creek
Glendale – Cross streets: 51st Avenue and Thunderbird Road
Peoria – 2 locations. Cross streets: 103rd Lane and West Jessie Lane; 83rd Avenue and Happy Valley Road
Phoenix – 3 locations. Cross streets: 34th St. and Rosemonte; Sharon Drive and Cave Creek Road; 35th Avenue and Quail Avenue
Queen Creek – 2 locations. Cross streets: Royce and Mako; Hunt Hwy and Power Road
Tempe – Cross streets: Mill Avenue and Carter Drive
Tolleson – Cross streets: 107th Avenue and Roeser Road

The map will available on the GPPS website, at phoenixponds.com, after Monday, May 8.
The tour is open house format. Guests can visit as many locations as they would like between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. No public restrooms available. Bring water and wear weather appropriate clothing. Children must be accompanied by adults at all times.
GPPS was founded in 1996, and is a group of pond enthusiasts dedicated to the promotion of water gardening and fish keeping in the Arizona desert.
