A Ford Expedition struck a woman who was crossing North 19th Avenue Friday night, and the 59-year-old was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.
Preliminary information indicates the woman was crossing at the intersection of North 19th Avenue and West Van Buren Street at about 6:50 p.m. Sept. 18. She was in the crosswalk but appears to have been hit while walking when the signal indicated not to cross, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.
The Expedition driver stayed at the scene, was not injured and showed no signs of impairment, police said, adding speed does not appear to be a factor.
