West Phoenix transit route proposal up for discussion at public meetings

Posted

Phoenix and Valley Metro have scheduled meetings where officials will provide information on a proposed west Phoenix transit route.

“Based on community feedback and significant technical analysis, a route beginning at Central Avenue/Indian School Road to 75th Avenue/Thomas Road will be shared with the community and recommended for approval” during sessions later this month and in early March, a city release stated.

In addition, an analysis will be shared regarding two starting points off the current light rail line at either Central or 19th avenues.

The recommended route is proposed to travel west on Indian School Road from Central Avenue, south on 75th Avenue and west on Thomas Road, ultimately connecting central Phoenix and Maryvale neighborhoods.

“This route is being advanced based on several factors, including highest ridership potential and ability to serve the highest number of transit-reliant customers of the more than 10 potential routes evaluated,” the release stated

The project team will conduct three public meetings, as well as open up a public comment period:

Wednesday, Feb. 28, 6-8 p.m., Westwood Elementary School, 4711 N. 23rd Ave.

Thursday, Feb. 29, 6-8 p.m., Desert West Community Center, 6501 W. Virginia Ave.
