West Phoenix crash kills 24-year-old man

A 24-year-old man died Tuesday night in a two-vehicle collision near 83rd Avenue and Thomas Road, Phoenix police said.
The crash occurred about 10:35 p.m. March 19, and officers found a passenger, Sergio Vasquez Jr., with serious injuries. The Phoenix Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene.
The driver with Vasquez was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle did not require medical care.
Detectives said initial information indicates the car occupied by the victim was going west on Thomas Road at a high rate of speed when it collided with a car driving north on 83rd Avenue.
