Vehicle hits, kills man pushing shopping cart on Phoenix road

Posted

Phoenix Police Department detectives said they believe speed may have been a factor in the death of man hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning as he was pushing a shopping cart across the road near 35th and Whitton avenues.

The collision occurred about 5:15 a.m. April 23, and when officers arrived, they found  a man with serious injuries.

The Phoenix Fire Department arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives took over the investigation, and preliminary information suggests that the pedestrian was in the roadway pushing a shopping cart when he was struck by a vehicle traveling north on 35th Avenue, police said.

The shopping cart and its contents struck another vehicle.

Both vehicles remained at the scene, and a charging decision will not be made until after an accident reconstruction process, police said.
