Teen boy sentenced to 14 years for road rage shooting in south Phoenix

A 16-year-old teenage boy was sentenced to 14 years in prison Monday for a deadly road rage shooting in south Phoenix, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday in a release.

According to the release, Henry Gonzales was riding in a vehicle when he and his friends encountered 45-year-old Porfirio Medina, who was riding a scooter near Seventh Street and Buckeye Road in August 2025. After they nearly collided, the victim followed the vehicle to the next intersection and approached the passenger side while stopped at a red light, according to the release.

Gonzales lowered the passenger-side window and fired a single shot, hitting Medina in the chest. The vehicle fled the scene without calling 911 or reporting the incident. Medina was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to the release.
