Suspect charged with homicide in weekend Phoenix shooting

A 58-year-old man is dead, and a 41-year-old man faces homicide charges in an Oct. 3 shooting near a Phoenix apartment complex, police said.

The shooting occurred just after midnight Saturday near 17th and Maryland avenues, police said. Officers found John David Lee inside a vehicle with at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police received information that led them to an apartment where Sherman Murphy was taken into custody, according to a release. He was booked on one count of second-degree homicide.
