Strengthening Phoenix’s future during D.C. meetings

OPINION — I was in Washington, D.C., recently to advocate on behalf of Phoenix and District 8 residents. We held several productive meetings with the Arizona congressional delegation and representatives of national organizations and federal departments.

As chair of the city’s Community Services and Education Subcommittee, I met on issues from early education to housing.

A meeting with the National Head Start Association involved the administration’s proposed rule changes and coordinating a response. If enacted, the changes would have a negative impact on the city’s Head Start programs and its young learners. Review more information and submit a comment by Oct. 6 asking the Department of Human Services to protect Head Start.
