The city of Phoenix is honoring the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church with a ceremonial street sign.

Vice Mayor Kesha Hodge Washington said the church has been an “anchor in this Phoenix neighborhood” since it was built in 1958.

“For nearly seven decades, it has provided cultural, spiritual, educational, charitable and community support while preserving Serbian-American heritage for generations,” Hodge Washington said during the Wednesday, Oct. 7 city council meeting.
