Speeding led to fiery fatal West Valley crash: Phoenix PD

Posted

Speed was a factor in a fatal crash Friday night near 83 Avenue and Thomas Road, Phoenix police said.

Police arrived at the crash scene about 8:30 p.m. April 5 to find two vehicles, one of which was engulfed in flames.

The Phoenix Fire Department extinguished the fire, but the lone occupant and driver, Jesus Martinez-Goana, 21, was pronounced dead, according to a release.

The man driving the other vehicle was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Preliminary information from detectives suggests that the vehicle driven by Martinez-Goana was westbound on Thomas Road at a high rate of speed as it entered the intersection with 83rd Avenue.

The other vehicle was headed east on Thomas Road making a left turn at 83rd Avenue.

The crash caused Martinez-Goana’s vehicle to hit a tree.
