Scottsdale Equine Therapy Farm receives $10K for fencing project

Hunkapi Programs, an equine therapy farm in Scottsdale, has recently been awarded $10,000 from the Victoria Lund Foundation.
The donation will allow the farm to install fencing around one of its main arenas where clients with a range of diagnoses are treated, according to a press release.
The new fencing will create a safer enclosure for the animals at the center of the therapeutic sessions. Also, the donation allows the program to improve an original part of the property in desperate need of updating for years.
“This land is home to a herd of four-legged healers that perform miracles everyday for people from all walks of life,” said Terra Schaad, executive director in a prepared statement.
“Thanks to this generous gift from the Victoria Lund Foundation, we’ll be able to protect the horses, patients and therapists who use the arena every day.”
During sessions, the horses use their instincts to give patients feedback on their thoughts, feelings and behaviors, while therapists help to interpret and strategize, the release said.
The equine therapy program focuses on building healthy relationships and connecting with others, regulating emotional and mental responses, identifying a patient’s strengths and teaching them to be more intentional in how they interact with the world around them.
“We are proud to grant this money to help with the programs Hunkapi provides,” said Sherry Lund, president of the foundation, in a prepared statement.
“We believe what the program does changes lives for the better. The young patients they help are our future and animal therapy is an amazing tool for healing.”
Hunkapi clients range from three years old through adulthood with a variety of diagnoses including, but not limited to Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Emotional Disorder, Addiction Disorder, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, the release added.
