OPINION — Growing up, I became aware of political parties and the line between Democrats and Republicans was clearly delineated. My parents were Republicans but didn’t hesitate to vote the other party when the issues warranted it.
As I became eligible to vote, I really tried to compare my values and priorities to those of the candidates. It became apparent that the closer the race was to my home, the more important the decision. State senators and representatives make policies that may directly affect me, and my vote was integral to a positive outcome.
For me, the Arizona Legislative District 27 races are very vital to the future of my neighborhood and state. I’m a retired public-school educator (high school English teacher and guidance counselor. I have a vested interest in education due to my grandkids, but also considering the effect public schools has on our community and quality of life.
