A 46-year-old man is dead after being hit Saturday by a vehicle while riding a bicycle near 40th and Oak streets, Phoenix police said.

Officers found David Pinkerton lying on the sidewalk just after 1:45 a.m. Aug. 17. He was taken to a hospital where he died, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.

The driver left the scene in the vehicle.

Preliminary information suggests Pinkerton was heading south on 40th Street on the west side of the street when he was struck by the vehicle, which also was heading south.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness.
