Special to Independent Newsmedia
Sister Lynn Winsor, vice principal for activities and athletic director at Xavier College Preparatory in Phoenix, was honored with the Leslie Moore Legacy Award by the Global Community of Women in High School Sports.
The organization sought to honor a trailblazer and champion who left a mark in athletic administration and sports.
Winsor has been an innovative coach and administrator since she returned to Xavier to teach in 1974. She's a member of Xavier's Class of 1961, and in her 47th year as Xavier's vice principal for activities/athletic director, she is the longest serving high school athletic director in the state.
As a founding member of the Arizona Interscholastic Association's Girls Equity and Sports Committee, Winsor was instrumental in laying the groundwork for the AIA to provide more sports for girls, including soccer, beach volleyball, and flag football. She continues to be an advocate for female athletes and administrators.
Xavier College Prep is an all-girls Catholic high school located at 4710 N. 5th St.
