Phoenix Vice Mayor Kesha Hodge Washington appears headed for re-election for her District 8 City Council seat, according to early election results.
Hodge Washington had 74.5% of the vote in early returns on Tuesday night, 18,185 votes. She is outpacing her two challengers: Frank Absciano Jr. (4,126 votes, 16.9%) and Jarrett Barton Maupin Jr. (2,090 votes, 8.6%).
If no candidate had gotten a majority of the vote in the general election, the top two-vote getters would have gone to a runoff in March. However, it appears Hodge Washington is on her way to get a majority and secure the seat in the general election.
