Phoenix to add electronic signs at eight more trailheads in next year

Hikers in Phoenix will soon be seeing more electronic message boards at the start of their hikes.

The city is already using the signs at Echo Canyon Trail on Camelback Mountain and at Piestewa Peak. The Park Department has eight other locations under design that will be finished by the end of 2027.

The signs are one of several efforts to tell hikers if a trail is closed due to an Extreme Heat Warning by the National Weather Service. They will also cycle through safety reminders for hikers.
