Three people have been arrested in what police call an “ambush-style shooting” of an officer Friday night.
The Phoenix Police Department also announced the officer was released Monday from a hospital and is recovering at home.
One adult and two juveniles are considered suspects in the shooting that occurred March 29 near 33rd and Southern avenues, police said.
“The investigation remains very active, and for that reason that is the only information being released at this time about the suspects and the arrests,” police stated in a release.
The off-duty Phoenix police officer, who has been with the department seven years, was shot multiple times while investigating reports of an attempted armed robbery near 3300 W. Southern Ave., authorities said.
At about 11:30 p.m. March 29, suspects attempted an armed robbery of a vehicle in a parking lot near 33rd and Southern avenues, police said Saturday morning.
“The officer approached this area to make contact with those involved. At least one of the suspects who was armed with a handgun began to fire in the direction of the officer,” police stated in the release.
The officer, who did not use his firearm, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and the suspects took off before other officers arrived, according to the release.
