Phoenix Police and Vitalant host blood drive honoring fallen officer

The Phoenix Police Department and Vitalant have joined together to honor fallen Officer Zane Coolidge and injured Officer Matthew Haney. Both were shot in the line of duty on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

The Phoenix Police Department has invited the community to give blood in honor of these officers, the department announced in a news release, at the Mountain View and Black Mountain Precincts on Wednesday, September 11.

Space is limited, so appointments are requested by visiting Vitalant.org/PHXPD.

The blood drives are being held on Patriots' Day - a date designated to give thanks to the brave first responders who put their lives on the line on Sept. 11, 2001. Amid the feelings of helplessness, giving blood is a way to reach out. Donating blood is a wonderful tribute and it saves lives, the department stated in the release.

Once appointments are filled, the public is invited to give blood in honor of Officers Coolidge and Haney at any time Wednesday or Thursday at any Vitalant blood drive or donation center.
