Phoenix plans $5.9M to help lift people out of homelessness

The city of Phoenix is planning to spend $5.9 million toward programs to lift people out of homelessness.

On Wednesday, Phoenix City Council voted 8-0 for the city to apply for a $500,000 grant from the Arizona State Housing Trust Fund to support workforce readiness and navigation services at the Phoenix Navigation Center. The city is putting forward $5.4 million of its own money toward the program for a total of $5.9 million.

“Investing into programs like this shows our residents that we are serious about moving people out of homelessness and into a path of stability,” said Councilmember Anna Hernandz. “But more importantly, I think it shows the residents that we are putting our money where our mouth is when it comes to this issue.”
