The first of three new parks and recreational spaces plan for the Laveen area of Phoenix has opened.

The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department last week celebrated the grand opening of Harvest Park, 5400 W. Gwen St.

It spans more than 10 acres and features a playground, two pickleball courts, a basketball court, amphitheater and more, according to a release.

At the heart of Harvest Park is a tribute to the agricultural heritage of South Phoenix.

Harvest Park was made possible through a $4 million investment funded by impact fees, the release stated.
