Phoenix Library calls for nichos for Día de los Muertos display

Phoenix Public Library invites the community to take part in our Día de los Muertos celebration by creating and submitting a nicho box — a small, decorated display box honoring loved ones who have died.

Phoenix Library calls for nichos for Día de los Muertos display

Phoenix Public Library invites the community to take part in our Día de los Muertos celebration by creating and submitting a nicho box — a small, decorated display box honoring loved ones who have died.

Nichos can be made from cigar boxes, mint tins, shoe boxes or other small containers. Nicho materials available beginning Sept. 1 at the 2nd floor service desk at Burton Barr Central Library while supplies last.

Drop off your completed nicho at the service desk on the 2nd floor at Burton Barr Central Library Sunday-Sunday, Sept. 20-27 during regular business hours.

All submissions will be displayed at Burton Barr Central Library, 2nd floor Tuesday, Oct. 6 – Friday, Nov. 6. After the display period, submitted nichos can be picked up Monday, Nov. 9 – Monday, Nov. 16.

Details

  • Nicho boxes can be made from mini boxes or mint tins. Available at Burton Barr Central Library while supplies last.
  • Nichos must be no larger than three inches tall, four inches wide and three inches deep when fully open.
  • The Burton Barr Central Library is open to the public seven days a week.
  • Please do not include valuable or irreplaceable items.
  • Phoenix Public Library reserves the right to determine what is appropriate to be included in this public exhibit.

How to Submit

Deliver completed nichos to Burton Barr Central Library during normal business hours. See the Service Desk on the 5th floor.
