City of Phoenix Councilwoman Anna Hernandez is receiving an award from the National Homelessness Law Center as part of the 2026 Human Right to Housing Awards Wednesday evening in Washington D.C.
Hernandez will be receiving the non-partisan Local Legislator Award for her advocacy for housing justice, public health, and community-driven solutions in Phoenix, and for her leadership against the criminalization of homelessness.
The NHLC cited her role as the sole Council opponent of the City’s “Safe Medical Treatment in Parks” ordinance, first introduced in December 2025, and the wave of community engagement her opposition helped spark.
