Phoenix celebrates Indigenous arts at Herberger Theater

Free October event features live music, film, art, Native American vendors

The Herberger Theater Center will host “First Peoples, First Friday,” a free community event celebrating Arizona’s Indigenous communities, from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at 222 E. Monroe St. in downtown Phoenix.

Coordinated by the Arizona Commission on the Arts, the event will feature live music by The Zoniez, led by Navajo and Inuit artist Mogley Oney, and a screening and discussion of “The River,” an award-winning short film by Akimel O’otham filmmaker Claude A. Jackson.

Visitors can also explore art galleries, shop a marketplace featuring Native American artists, enjoy Indigenous cuisine from local vendors and participate in children's art activities. Drink specials will be available at the Spotlight Bar.
