Pair indicted in deadly QuikTrip shooting

Posted

Two 19-year-old men have been indicted on felony charges, including first-degree murder, in the death of Naul Hernandez who was shot while pumping gas at Phoenix QuikTrip.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced Monday that Arturo Vazquez-Rodriguez and Isaac Lechuga have been indicted on the following charges: first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery, kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Authorities allege that early on Feb. 21 Lechuga and Vazquez-Rodriguez robbed a victim at gunpoint at a convenience store near 25th Avenue and Camelback Road. One suspect carried out the robbery while the other remained in the truck as a lookout before they fled the scene, according to an MCAO release.

The pair then traveled to another convenience store near 27th Avenue and Thomas Road where “they fatally shot Naul Hernandez, an innocent bystander who was pumping gas,” the release stated.

Vazquez-Rodriguez remains in custody on a $1 million cash-only bond, meaning he must pay the full amount to be released from jail. Lechuga is being held on a $1 million secured appearance bond, which means he must pay 10% of the full amount in cash and can secure the remaining amount with personal assets.

Both are scheduled for trial in October, authorities said.
