If confronted with evictions from their homes, during the pandemic, military veterans in Maricopa County can receive funding from the Cares Act.
Veterans who lost their job or experienced a reduction in wages due to COVID-19, according to a press release, U.S.VETS-Phoenix may be able to prevent eviction.
The Supportive Services for Veteran Families --- SSVF --- program’s focus promotes housing stability for veterans, the release said, noting the three requirements.
To receive assistance from the SSVF program:
Served in the United States military with a discharge status other than dishonorable
Are homeless or at risk of losing their home due to not being able to pay rent
Meet income eligibility requirements at the time of possible eviction
“Right now we are seeing an increase of Veterans who need our assistance. Many of these individuals have never needed support or found themselves facing eviction and they don’t know where to turn. We want them to know that they can turn to us,” said Michelle Jameson, executive director, in a prepared statement.
The only documentation needed is proof from a landlord that rent payments are behind, said the release.
Any military veteran can qualify to receive supportive services from U.S.VETS-Phoenix including preventing eviction and covering move-in costs and rent to house any veteran who may be homeless.
Anyone needing supportive services can contact the U.S.VETS SSVF program between 7:30 a.m.–4 p.m., Monday through Friday at 602-441-0612.
