Man dies in scooter collision near downtown Phoenix

A 60-year-old man is dead after the scooter he was operating collided Friday night with a vehicle near downtown Phoenix, police said.

Officers responded about 8:20 p.m. May 24 near 12th Avenue and Washington Street. They found Edwin Rodriguez, who was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

Detectives took over the investigation and stated in a release that initial information shows the victim was crossing Washington Street on a motorized scooter when a vehicle driving west struck him.

The driver stayed at the scene and spoke with detectives.

Further details of this collision are still under investigation, police said.
