Make the most out of a rainy day: Phoenix teaches how to harvest rainwater

The city of Phoenix is promoting and teaching residents how to harvest rainwater as an option to help conserve water and replenish underground stores of water.

The Phoenix Water Services Department sponsored Valerisa Gaddy, community conservation program director for the Tucson-based Watershed Management Group, to give an educational seminar on how to harvest rainwater.

Rainwater can be harvested in two ways. Active rainwater harvesting is storing rainwater that runs off a building’s roof in a tank. Passive rainwater harvesting is preparing the ground to absorb rainwater.
