I hardly know how to begin responding to Roy Miller’s recent letter (“Racial justice is just more racism,” YourValley.net, Nov. 19, 2021). Every sentence, and there are a lot of them, is a gem of rightist misinformation, innuendo and propaganda.
He manages to imply that Black Americans, who as a group earn two-thirds as much as White wage earners, do so because a lack of “merit or hard work.”
We learn that the government requires “every form that government touches to include a person’s race,” yet my driver’s license, the government document I use the most, makes no mention of race, nor do the IRS forms, government forms pretty much all of us deal with.
“Social justice” we learn is a code word for socialism despite the reality that its meaning is pretty much unchanged since being introduced into American political discourse in The Federalist Papers: No. 7, in 1787.
The closing remark, “Let’s work toward justice, not racial justice and not social justice” is akin to saying, “Let’s work towards a healthy America” and then denying that cancer and heart disease exist.
