Car hits, kills woman in south Phoenix

A 21-year-old woman died Friday after she was struck by a car near 36th Avenue and Baseline Road, police said.

The crash occurred about 2:55 a.m. March 22, and police officers and fire department responded to find Jaylynn James suffering from critical injuries. She did not survive.

Detectives said initial information is the victim was trying to cross Baseline Road outside crosswalks when she was hit by the car headed west.

The man driving the car was interviewed and showed no signs of impairment, police said.
