Scottsdale, Paradise Valley residents help raise $54.1M for Valleywise Health

Valleywise Health Foundation announced Tuesday the completion of its four-year “ALL IN for Valleywise Health” Campaign, with the effort raising $54.1 million.
Launched in January 2020 by Valleywise Health Foundation and the All In for Valleywise Health Campaign Cabinet led by Co-chairs Nita and Phil Francis, this major campaign effort more than doubled its original campaign goal.

The campaign focused on areas of responsibility for Arizona’s public teaching hospital and safety net system of care for Maricopa County:

• Burn Survivorship Care at the new Diane & Bruce Halle Arizona Burn Center – Valleywise Health;

• Behavioral health programs, such as its First Episode Center

• Teaching Arizona’s future health care professionals through its partnership in the Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance

• Caring for the Community by serving all who seek care, regardless of their ability to pay.

“When people understand the unique role Valleywise Health plays in the Valley and that supporting the public teaching health system benefits communities and hospitals throughout the region, they are eager to learn more and get involved,” said Nita and Phil Francis in a statement.

The co-chairs added the need for philanthropy for Valleywise hasn’t stopped, but the effort was a good start for public health care.

“At Valleywise Health, where our mission is to provide exceptional care, without exception, every patient, every time, community and philanthropic support is more critical and meaningful than ever,” said Valleywise Health President and CEO Steve Purves. “The dedication and generosity of these community leaders, along with the Valleywise Health Foundation Board of Directors, who believed in our transformation and who understood the critical importance of our mission, is invaluable.”

The effort is the latest step in a four-year upgrade on the county’s public health system that started with the Maricopa Health Foundation’s rebranding in 2019 with a different fundraising focus, said foundation President and CEO Nicole Rivet.

“These community champions investing their time, talent and treasure to support the place that has consistently stepped up to address Arizona’s most critical health challenges for nearly 150 years, made the ALL IN Campaign an overwhelming success," said Valleywise Health Foundation President and CEO Nicole Rivet.

Valleywise Health Foundation signaled out the following for helping with the effort:

• ALL IN for Valleywise Health Campaign Co-Chairs Nita and Phil Francis

• Honorary Chairs Betsey Bayless and Jason Schechterle

• ALL IN for Valleywise Health Campaign Cabinet members Karie and Rich Dozer, Dr. Kevin Foster, Laurie and Dr. Charles Goldstein, Kathleen and John Graham, Amy and Tim Louis, Bart Patterson, Dr. Susan Pepin, Jaye and Barry Perricone, Mary Kay and Bill Post, Sara and Steve Schramm, Anne C. Stupp, Traci and Jim Swanson, and Erin and Greg Vogel.

• Valleywise Health Foundation Board Members: Chair Patti Gentry, Vice Chair Warren Whitney, Treasurer Sel Nutor, Secretary Charles Brown, Liz Agboola, Claire Agnew, Betsey Bayless, Dr. Jodi Carter, Mark G. Dewane, Jill Krigsten, Tim Louis, Alicia Nuñez, Josh Nuñez, David Pugh, Steve Purves, Dr. Albert Roh, Anne C. Stupp, and Marci-Zimmerman-White.

• 2020-2023 Foundation Board Alumni: Past Chair Kevin Neal, past Vice Chair Pam Stelzer, past Governance Chair Scott Meyer, Philip Gerard, Bryan Jeffries, Tim O’Neil, Dr. Susan Pepin, and Dr. Hiral Tipirneni. (With gratitude and in loving memory of the late John Hoopes, 2021-2022 Board Chair.)

“There are so many who contributed to achieving this milestone and doubling our campaign goal,” said Valleywise Health Foundation Chief Advancement Officer Kate Fassett. “As we launched our campaign in January 2020, little did we know we would need to quickly pivot to support the health system through an unprecedented global pandemic. However, just as the health care warriors of Valleywise Health rose to the occasion with daily media and community updates and compassionate patient care, our donors stepped up to help serve those who need us most.”

Fassett made note of specific gifts to the foundation: the first campaign gift received from the David E. Reese Family Foundation in 2019 and those from The Diane & Bruce Halle Foundation, Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, District Medical Group, the Michael W. Louis Foundation, F2 Family Foundation, Thunderbirds Charities, Maricopa IDA, Rafi Law Group and the Stardust Foundation, among many others.

Valleywise Health Foundation’s ALL IN for Valleywise Health Campaign culminates with the opening of the new 10-story Valleywise Health Medical Center, scheduled to open in April. The new acute care hospital at 2601 E. Roosevelt Road in Phoenix will replace the current teaching hospital, which opened in 1971.
