When the air conditioner stopped working at Cocopah Middle School on a 105-degree day, Rebecca Ryerson and her husband had to leave work to pick up their children.
The HVAC failure disrupted more than just a school day. Ryerson said she and her husband each spent about an hour waiting for their children to be dismissed, creating another problem for working parents.
“So, when it’s disrupting the actual school day for the kids and it’s disrupting the working day for their parents,” Ryerson said, “that sort of disruption is just not good for a learning environment.”
