Marks finds joy in giving back to community

Posted

Name: Stanley J. Marks

Where I live: Paradise Valley, Arizona

Where I attended school: Cornell University (undergrad) and New York University Law School

How long I’ve worked in the legal profession: I have been with the same law firm representing injured clients since 1966.

Why I decided to pursue a career in the legal profession: I could say that I wanted a job or profession where I could feel good about helping people. But, actually I was looking to escape a family business selling wallpaper.

Why I volunteer for the local municipal court: I am grateful for the opportunity of giving back to the community that I have lived in for the past 50 years.

What is the most rewarding part of being a judge: It is rare that one can be in a position to alleviate some of the anxiety and stress of those dragged into the judicial system.

What I like to do in my spare time? I enjoy sharing life with the woman I love and grandparenting. Add to that tennis, fishing, and taking my dogs to the dog park. Life is good.

Who was the biggest influence in your life? Why? My mother instilled in me a moral compass and a desire to make the world a little better.

What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing a legal profession? If helping people solve their problems, then the effort to become an attorney is well worth it.
