Man succumbs to injuries sustained from moped accident

Independent Newsmedia
A 68-year-old man has died from injuries sustained from a moped accident that occurred in the area of north Fanfol Drive and east Mountain View Road.
The Paradise Valley Police Department was notified by the Medical Examiner’s Office that the man, transported to Scottsdale Osborn Hospital for treatment after a Dec. 17 moped accident, died on the evening of Dec. 23, reportedly from injuries he sustained during the accident.
The PVPD and the Phoenix Fire Department initially responded on scene to assist the man who reportedly hit his head and was injured, according to a police press release.
Officers interviewed a witness and the victim’s wife and determined that after the man’s moped stopped working, while he was riding it, he called his wife to meet him and tow it back to their home, the release said.
His wife responded, and they tied a rope from her vehicle to the moped. The man rode the moped while it was being towed by his wife. However, while driving home, the rope reportedly snapped, causing the moped to crash, detailed the release.
The man, who was not wearing a helmet, struck his head, the release added.
The PVPD’s Criminal Investigations Unit is conducting a death investigation, according to the release.
